Tips for making safe online transactions

The rising power of internet and ecommerce has made it difficult for businesses and individuals to avoid online transactions. From ordering groceries to purchasing online software, many of us are entirely dependent on internet in order to make our life easier and less hectic. However, this does not decrease the importance of ensuring and opting for safer payment modes.  In order to keep your financial information secured, you need to read the following tips.

1 – Using the trusted websites and wholesale portals is the first rule in keeping your money and financial information safe. The websites, which are accredited by credible sources contain a stamp or seal on their header. In some cases, the accreditation body charges websites with hundreds of dollars monthly for offering that seal and does not check if they offer secure means for online transaction. So, do not buy the trust seal thing and go for the websites that have been recommended by your family and friends.

2 – It is highly recommended to use your personal computer for making online transactions. Also, keep your personal computer secure with passwords and do not let anyone use it without administration. Since every computer has its own setting, it is unlikely that you would find out if someone’s computer that you used has saved your username, password, or key-pin etc. Therefore, for doing anything online that involves money, use your personal computer.

3 – Even if you follow all safety checks, you must keep track of your online transactions. Check your account statement regularly and tally it against the date, place and amount mentioned on the receipts. For this purpose, you have got to develop the habit of keeping the payment receipts safe. If you find some false transaction in your account statement, make sure to report it then and there.

4 – Most of us are in a habit of setting simpler and similar passwords for our different accounts. This is not a very good practice because setting loose security checks is equivalent to inviting trouble. If you frequently buy online wholesale products or make online transactions for other purposes, you should set a 3D secure code for your credit or debit card.
